Elections highlights: DMK-Congress meetings are like a corruption hackathons, alleges PM in Tamil Nadu

Speaking in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday alleged that the meetings between DMK and Congress are like “corruption hackathons”. “Their leaders sit and brainstorm how to loot,” he said.

Modi also said that the government doesn’t want small farmer to feel dependent on anyone or feel suffocated due to middlemen. “The PM Kisan scheme just completed 2 years yesterday. 11 crore farmers have gained from this scheme,” he added.

Earlier today, the prime minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects in Puducherry. He inaugurated the projects at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in the UT. He is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects worth over Rs 12,400 crore in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore at around 4 pm. In the wake of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the BJP has chalked out an extensive plan to woo small backward castes in the Dravidian state as part of its efforts to counter its image of an upper-caste dominated party from the Hindi heartland.

Meanwhile, addressing a public rally in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district Thursday, Union Home Ministers said that development in Assam in not possible without peace in the region.”There can be no development without peace. If people need employment, healthcare, education, home, and electricity, then it cannot be done by taking up arms,” he said.

Recently, over 1,000 militants of five militant groups of Karbi Anglong district had ceremonially laid down arms at an event in Guwahati in the presence of state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
