Oxygen shortage: Need a national plan by tomorrow, says Supreme Court

On Thursday, the Apex court asked the centre to submit a National plan by tomorrow for taking cognisance of what is called a national health emergency situation. These plan is to boost up the supply of oxygen, medicine and vaccines.

“Kin unable to find a scarce hospital beds” said by  a bench of chief justice SA Bobde and Justice LN Rao and S Ravindra Bhat who also decided to step an action plan from centre.

The bench asked the centre to provide response on three issues:

  1. Establishing a national body for equitable distribution of these resources.
  2. Considering medicines and medical equipment’s along with the oxygen under ESMA.
  3. And comparing logistics for seamless inter state distribution of medicines and oxygen.

                           The bench also asked the Tamil Nadu Government to allow reopening of Vedanta’s Sterlite copper plant for producing 1000 tones of medical oxygen , the plant which was shut down previously due to the violation of pollution norms.

The Supreme Court appointed Salve and advocate Anuradha Dutt as amici curiae in the proceedings on the national plan for covid management.
