Madras High Court grants bail to man accused of cheating, sexual assault after complainant, accused express readiness to marry each other

The Madras High Court on Friday granted bail to a man accused of rape and cheating in view of the fact that the complainant and the accused expressed their readiness to marry each other.
The accused had been arrested on February 25, 2021 on allegations that he sexually assaulted the complainant, got her pregnant and later refused to marry her. An FIR was registered on a complaint filed by the mother of the victim girl for offences under Section 417 (cheating) and 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused subsequently moved for bail. The Court was told that the bail applicant and the complainant loved each other and that the applicant was ready to marry the victim girl.
On instructions, the State also submitted that the bail applicant and the girl were ready to marry each other and that their parents have arranged for the marriage.
Bail was granted subject to the execution of a Rs 10,000 bond and two sureties
