Seven personalize and three airport officials were caught smuggling gold at Indira Gandhi airport of worth 72 lakhs. After a 24hours intense operation three persons were intercepted by the customs officials after their arrival from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after detailed search of their baggies resulted in recovery of two gold bar pieces and a gold biscuit collectively weighed 517grams and valued 22lakhs.
According to the reports several airline staffs were caught assisting smugglers ,often by carrying gold which were left behind seats or in the flight to a third party.
On further investigation information came to light that three staffs of indigo airline and one staff of spice jets were involved in this smuggling and also have admitted in the previously smuggling of 960grams gold. All seven accused person (3 passengers and 4 airline staffs) were arrested under. Officials said further investigation will be carried to determine about the past smuggling incidents.
