A large number of Kashmiri Pandits gathered and demonstrated a protest in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir due to the delay in monthly relief payments. The crowd attempted to block the Jammu-Srinagar Highway however it was dispersed by the police.
The protestors from ‘Jagti Migrant Camp’ had a march from the outskirts of the city to the highway.
The crowd threatened to intensify their uproar in case of non-fulfillment of their demands. Hundreds had gathered with placards and slogans demanding the immediate payment of relief promised for August.
“The relief for the month of August was not released by the relief commission till date, causing hardships to the displaced community,” a spokesman of the Kashmiri Pandit Relief Holders Association said.
“We appeal to Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the issue and ensure early release of the payment,” the spokesman said.
The association also said that this is the first time in thirty years when the monthly relief fund hasn’t been supplied in time.
