Deputy President Kamala Harris will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on September 23, a day ahead of bilateral meeting between him and President Joe Biden and the Quad Summit at the White House, officials said. Biden will welcome Mr. Modi at their first two-day meeting at the White House on September 24. Later that day, the US President will host the first People’s Conference at the Quad Leaders in White House with Mr. Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
“The Deputy President will meet with the Honorable Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of India,” said a White House official.
This will be the first meeting between the two leaders. Mrs. Harris had spoken to Mr Modi by telephone during the COVID-19 disaster.
Ms. Harris is the first Indian to be elected vice president of the United States.
This week, when world leaders gather in New York to attend the annual session of the UN General Assembly, the US Vice President, according to the White House, is expected to hold meetings with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday, Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema on Wednesday and Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Thursday.
On Wednesday, he will also lead a session of the President’s COVID Summit on better reconstruction and preparation and prevention of the upcoming epidemic, according to a senior official at the White House.
