In connection with the violence that took place on Sunday in Lakhmipur, Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra has been booked with others for the crime of murder. According to SP Vijay Dhull, an FIR has been filed under the sections of Indian Penal Code 302 for murder, 147 for rioting and 120-B for criminal conspiracy.
The incident left 8 people dead, including four farmers. The protesting farmers have alleged that Ashish Mishra deliberately ran over the group with his car. Ajay Mishra, however has denied the reports of his son even being present at the spot.
The steps of the ruling government that are being followed by wide criticism are putting Akhilesh Yadav, former UP Chief Minister and President of Samajwadi Party, under house arrest ahead of his scheduled visit to meet the families of the victims and detainment of senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on her way to Lakhmipur Kheri to visit the place of rioting as well. Police personnel have been deployed outside Akhilesh Yadav’s residence at Vikramaditya Marg; Yadav also staged a sit-in protest against the same.
He has been quoted as saying that even Britishers would not have committed such atrocious deeds like the present ruling government has been against the farmers of the country.
