As various states in the country are witnessing a shift in political power ahead of the upcoming state assembly polls in 2022, Uttar Pradesh has become the latest entrant in the list. After the Chief Minister change in Gujarat and Punjab, along with the reshuffle of the whole respective cabinets, Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet has inducted in itself seven new leaders.

The state government cabinet has been expanded and now includes former Congress leader Jitin Prasad. The other six additions are of leaders Chhatrapal Gangwar, Paltu Ram, Sangeeta Balwant, Sanjeev Kumar, Dinesh Khatik and Dharmveer Prajapati. The oath was taken at Raj Bhawan and administered by State governor Anandiben Patel. This is the first time since 2019 that an expansion has taken place in Adityanath’s ministry. The inclusion of Jitin Prasad is the talk of the town as the former Congress leader is considered to influential among the Brahmin community and most probably will provide a significant edge to the BJP in the coming assembly elections.

Notably, the current representation of Brahmin population in Uttar Pradesh is as much as 13% and over the course of the past few decades, most of their votes have drifted towards the BJP, which traditionally used to go to the Congress.
