The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Ms Mamata Banerjee announced on Monday, 25th October, 2021 that schools, colleges and Universities will reopen in Bengal for physical classes from November – 16. The educational institutes are on its way to gear up for physical classes after the long 20 months closure for the Covid-19 pandemic.
The school education department is likely to hold a meeting with DMs and other senior officials on Tuesday, 26th October, 2021 in order to discuss the modalities of completing the preparatory works before reopening of the schools.
Educational institutions and centres in West Bengal have been shut since 16th March, 2020 due to the extreme rise of covid-19 cases in the state. Therefore, on Monday, the Chief Minister of the state told Chief Secretary H.K. Dwivedi to resume the schools and colleges from November 16th. Whereby, the Chief Minister in her statement said, “Kali puja is on November 4, Bhaiphonta on November 6, Chath puja is on November 10-11 and Jagadhattri Puja is on November 13. Start making arrangements for reopening of schools and colleges after that”. The initial date for reopening of the schools and colleges of the state was 15th November, 2021 but it is found as the birth anniversary of Adivasi icon, Birsa Munda.
The government official has assured that the resumption of offline classes will happen in a phased manner beginning with classes XI-XII for schools. The state had asked schools to ensure 50% class strength on any given day. Schools were also asked to set up isolation wards and health facilities. The state government is really looking forward to an optimising vision of getting all the things in an accurate position, also the necessary things are to be governed properly.
