The Indian National Congress leader and veteran politician, Mrs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a sharp attack on the Central government on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of demonetisation. Mrs Vadra on Monday termed demonetisation as a massive ‘disaster’ for the country. Further, she said that if this step has been, then why corruption hasn’t ended and the black money is not returned to the country.
On 8th November, 2016, Mr Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India announced the complete ban of the notes of ₹500 and ₹1000 from midnight on the same day. This announcement was made by the leader of the country on National television, which almost came to the mass as a surprise.
Mrs Gandhi Vadra tweeted whereby she said, “If ‘notebandi (demonetisation) was successful, why hasn’t corruption ended? Why hasn’t black money come back? Why hasn’t the economy gone cashless? Why hasn’t terrorism been hit? Why hasn’t price rise been reined in?” Further moving ahead she also used the hashtag ‘Demonetisation Disaster’.
Congress has been constantly alleging that the application of demonetisation has almost devastated the Indian economy and also created adverse effects on poor people. In addition, it also gave huge rise to poverty and unemployment in Indian society.
