Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti was on Wednesday i.e., 17th November, placed under house arrest awaiting further orders.
The PDP president was leading a protest against the killing of two civilians in Srinagar in an encounter. Mufti had demanded for the return of the dead bodies to the families.
According to the police, both said civilians associated with terrorism activity. Mufti has alleged that because of the enforcement of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the valley, no one can be held accountable for the death of the ‘innocents’.
During an anti-terror operation, a total of four people were killed by security forces on 15th November.
While speaking to the media and reporters, Mufti said that the families of the deceased are holding protests in Srinagar demanding that the dead bodies be handed over to them.
Criticising the government and it’s actions, which she deems as unrespectful towards the dead, she has been quoted as saying that “They (referring to the Bharatiya Janta Party) desire to convert this nation of Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar into a country of Godse. What else can I say?”
