National Security Is In Safe Hands: Uttarakhand Governor

Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmit Singh was sworn in on Wednesday as the new governor of Uttarakhand. The oath of office was administered to Singh by the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court Justice RS Chauhan at a simple function held at the Raj Bhawan here.

The function was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, his cabinet colleagues and a number of senior government officials including Chief Secretary SS Sandhu and DGP Ashok Kumar.

Lt Gen Singh succeeds Baby Rani Maurya, who resigned three years before completing her tenure.

Singh, who retired as the Deputy Chief of the Indian Army, is a highly decorated former Army officer.

His upcoming tenure will be observed by many with a keen eye, as the political scenario of the state has been unstable since quite a while now.

The shift of Chief Ministers turn by turn without the completion of tenures has raised many eyebrows and is seen as a sign of political failure of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in the state.

Trivendra Singh Rawat, Tirath Singh Rawat and the current incumbent Pushkar Singh Dhami have all held the office of the CM in the state within this year itself.
